Project Superintendent

James Construction is a Commercial General Contractor located in Pittsburgh specializing in Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build construction contracts with 30 years of commercial contracting experience, seeks an experienced Construction Project Superintendent.

The Project Superintendent directs all construction activities at the project site in accordance with pre-established construction documents, subcontractors, trade labor, equipment, schedules, and budgets. Implement and supervise Quality Control and Safety programs, including inspections and testing to monitor compliance with Contract Documents. Maintain accurate Daily Logs identifying on-site work conditions. Ensure timely job closeout and punch list completion.

Must be proficient in reading and interpreting Contract Documents. Evaluate Contract Documents to determine appropriate construction means and methods. Must be proficient in project scheduling. Maintain a close working relationship with the Project Manager to ensure proper coordination of administrative project activities. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Must possess the ability to coordinate and interact professionally with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors. Candidate must have excellent communication skills. Scheduling includes charting out the project objectives and plans, setting performance requirements, and selecting project participants. Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. Bringing about optimum utilization of resources- labor, materials and equipment, and ensuring their procurement at most cost-effective terms. Ensure that construction activities move according to pre-determined schedule.

Candidate will have a degree in engineering or equivalent construction field experience; a minimum eight (8) years experience as a Project Superintendent with an at-risk (self perform), General Contractor building institutional (university and healthcare), commercial, retail, and light-industrial type projects. Certificates and Licenses: OSHA 30 Hour, CPR/First-Aid, Safety Training. Must demonstrate computer proficiency in industry related software; including MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook software.
