James Construction completely renovated six operating suites and partially renovated three others while maintaining full operational occupancy of the remaining operating rooms and adjacent areas. The project also included replacing the 19,675 CFM, HVAC air flow system.

Concurrent use of the operating suites during construction demanded extreme coordination with the VA’s physicians and nursing staff. Multiple phasing schedules were strictly observed. HVAC interruptions were scheduled for nights and weekends only. Negative Air Machines, HEPA Vacuums, Sterilization Suits and very limited construction traffic were used to maintain a clean room environment.

The VA purchased new operating room equipment which required major redesign. James Construction coordinated the changes with the VA and completed the job with no claims for the 13-month contract extension.
