James Construction removed a 100-ft. section of concrete cap from Presque Isle’s North Pier and replaced it with an eighteen inch concrete cap reinforced with 93,000 pounds of rebar.  This strengthened section is designed to withstand the weight of materials-handling equipment that will lift buckets of sand from a dredger docked in the channel.

The fine lake-dredged sand used to replenish Presque Isle Park’s beaches can now be unloaded at the pier, eliminating the cost, dust, inconvenience and wear and tear on local roads of the 35 mile round trip previously required.  The sand will be stockpiled on site during the summer and fall to ensure spring replenishment in time for Memorial Day weekend.

James Construction completed this three-month project on time and within budget.
